Aftermath of the cheat day

So, last saturday was my cheat day as mentioned on the book. For those who have not yet read it, the idea is basically to keep on the diet for 6 days, and the 7th, you get a free pass. You can eat anything you want, as much as you want it.

I've read this on several places before for a variety of diets. The idea behind this is that your body should not get used to the lower caloric count you might be eating during the diet, otherwise your metabolism will adapt to that, and the fat loss will decrease.

As mentioned, this Saturday was my free day, so I thought I would go out with a bang. I had a couple of things in mind that I wanted to eat (all of them were gathered during the week, whenever I would have a craving, I would just write it down for the cheat day), so I started the day with a big coffee with milk, sugar on it as I like it and 3 big croissant. For lunch I got 3 pieces of breaded breast chicken with some french fries.
So far everything was going great, I got what I wanted, and was feeling quite good. Around 5 PM I got another cup of coffee with 2 more croissants. And from there on, it all went downhill.

I was playing StarCraft 2 after eating what I've just mentioned, when all of the sudden, I started to feel quite bad. It seemed like the room was getting really hot, and I was starting to have cold sweat. My stomach was not feeling that well either. I lay down for a while and everything was better, so I got back into my gaming, after yet another loss (yeah, it was a dark day for me at SC2 that day), I started feeling bad again, so I just decided to skip dinner and go directly to bed.

Looking back at it, I think it was not the food that actually made me feel bad, but rather the loss streak on the game, I know what you are thinking, it's just a game, it's supposed to be played for fun, etc. But if you think this way, it means you've never played starcraft or played it to the point where you want to get better :D

As for the cheat day, it was an overall good day, I got to eat what I wanted, and all within the boundaries of the diet (I just got that one day to get rid of all my cravings). Though I have the feeling that given that I did not have dinner that day because of my stomach, I might have not gone overboard with the caloric intake as I expected it to be.

So far, I can say that the diet is working, at least I can say that from a "feeling" point of view. I've got my first weighting (the second one, but the first was at the beginning of the diet as a baseline) to compare how I've done this week. I will be posting those results for everyone here.

First encounters

I've recently realized that I am not 18 anymore, I've become what I thought was far far away from me a couple of years ago. I am now an adult.

With that realization, I've noticed that my schedules have switched, my daily routines have switched and my priorities as well. A couple of years ago, I would just care about studying, doing some sports and my gaming (this subject might come up in several posts given that I am an avid gamer), but now that I have a job and I have obligations, those things have been left behind.

Lately I've come to the realization that I need to get my priorities in place. Working takes a good 9 hours of my day (plus traveling time which is about 2 more hours), and my spare time is mainly devoted to my passion, games.

The 4 Hour Body by Tim Ferriss
The 4 Hour Body by Tim Ferriss
Last week, while talking to some friends I usually play with, one of them mentioned he was going to try a new diet he read about on the internet. The 4 Hour Body, by Tim Ferriss. Given the fact that we usually dont have time and we are no longer the sport kind of guys, I asked him what it was about, and he briefly commented on it.

After some chat about it, he convinced me, basically because of one of the premises of the book, the Minimal Effort Dose (MED). I will cover this on further posts, but this concept was the one that got my attention, it's basically what every single person looks for, the minimum amount of work to get a result, and this applied to dieting was exactly what I was looking for given my limited free time.

So without much thinking, I bought The 4 Hour Body book by Tim Ferriss, and started working with it.
Here I am today, a couple of days into the diet, feeling much better and willing to share my progress and insights with all of you.

So I hope you enjoy the reading, the advice and the experiences I will be sharing with you and hopefully I will finally get to some of you to start changing your routines for the better.
